This genius of American comics, awarded the Grand Prix at the 2021 Angoulême Pageant, is being honored at the Bibliothèque publique d’info (Bpi) at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. For thirty years, the artist who defines himself as a “guide artist” has explored all of the richness and potential of the 9th Art.

The exhibition presents a variety of his work between unique plates, notebooks, rare prints, and sketches, tracing his graphic and narrative evolution: from his first drawings within the underground magazine Uncooked to his books (Jimmy Corrigan, Constructing Stories, Rusty Brown), his animated films (Quimby the Mouse, Mirror) and his covers for the New Yorker. To not point out his well-known Acme Novelty Library points in the 90s. However his production goes even additional, together with fashions, sculptures, and numerous constructions. Chris Ware is thus an entire artist, a mad writer of structure and a perfectionist craftsman of the book-object, of which he follows every stage of production. By creating a new sort of literary work, he has masterfully redrawn the arcane language of comics.
