Hyperdrawing
Created fifteen years ago to showcase new practices in modern drawing, notably the good diversification of its formats, media, and materials, the Drawing Now Art Truthful is driving the wave of the growing success (among younger collectors, but in addition and above all, among artists) of an reasonably priced and malleable technique of expression, harbored in its primordial simplicity and infinite prospects. From the intimacy of the sheet of paper once destined for sketching or research to the town partitions appropriated by road artists (some lovely Wild Incursions are introduced at the Museum of Searching and Nature), drawing has in the present day taken on an entire new dimension. Overflowing its frame, going even further past the bounds of the paper sheet, it lends itself simply to the sport of mixing genres, overflows and different detours carried out in present visible arts.
For this anniversary version of the show, an exhibition (duplicated at the Carreau du Temple and the Frac Picardie in Amiens) entitled “Hyperdrawing” honors these metamorphoses of the drawing which have turn into XXL, performative, invasive, “outdoors the partitions” … We discover artists who, in the wake of Sol LeWitt and his Wall Drawings within the late 1960s, hypertrophy the road to take a position the area by way of the gesture: Bulgarian artist Boryana Petkova’s performative drawing with shackles until exhaustion, German artist Katrin Ströbel’s all-over drawing of a suspended female physique, or Emmanuel Béranger’s performative drawing made while leaping.
